The Blind Cafe Experience

October 23 @ 8:00 pm

The Blind Café Experience is excited to announce the return to the hometown market of Boulder Colorado. The four public events will take place between October 21st – October 23rd 2021 at The Wesley Fellowship at CU Boulder.

The Blind Café was started by Rosh, a Boulder based singer-songwriter, who attended a dark café in Reykjavik, Iceland while on tour in 2007. After engaging socially in the dark, he designed an intimate live music listening and dinner experience held in 100% darkness. The experience is designed to help break down social barriers through the act of ‘breaking bread’ in community.

The music performed by his band ‘Rosh & The Blind Café Orchestra’ + other featured musical guests is an active music listening experience, designed to allow guests to open up and experience music in way that is uncommon in our modern cultural society.

Facilitated by a team of legally blind ambassadors from all throughout the United States, The Blind Café Experience is composed of three parts: the social impact discussion, the community dinner, and the music listening experience.

There is something powerful that happens at The Blind Café Experience that is beyond just a cool unique experience in the dark. When we lose our sight entirely, there is a relinquishing of control that must happen. The attendees must learn to listen better, be more acute with their presence and dig deeper inside themselves to communicate with each other. All habitual tendencies are interrupted and thereby a different way of relating to one another and the world begins to open.

As local patron Jacquelyn Halpren exclaims, “If you want a fulfilling, heartfelt, and genuine experience then this is for you. Rosh is an amazing soul who has the ability to make you feel like you’re with family. It was an intimate and vulnerable experience that felt safe and natural. It takes mad skills to marry education, uniqueness, and engagement into one, and Rosh and his team did so seamlessly. I would do it hundred and one times over.”

By positively engaging people socially in 100% darkness with live music, meaningful discussion, and the act of breaking bread communally, without the distractions of visual conditioning, social etiquette and screens, we explore how we can positively impact the quality of how people relate to themselves and others.
