Houston Police Chief Art Acevedo reads Motus Theater’s UndocuMonologues: Stories from our Undocumented Neighbors
March 11 @ 6:00 pm
In Motus Theater’s Shoebox Stories: UndocuAmerica podcast, prominent Americans such as John Lithgow, Nicholas Kristof, José Andrés, Gloria Steinem, Patrisse Cullors, Congressman Jason Crow and Congressman Joe Neguse have stepped into the shoes of nine undocumented leaders by reading aloud their stories artfully describing the impact of immigration policy on their dreams, hopes, and fears.
And now, in the final performance from Motus Theater’s Shoebox Stories: UndocuAmerica podcast, Houston Police Chief Art Acevedo stands in the shoes of Laura Peniche, a young mother with DACA who is a Christian of great faith. Chief Acevedo reads aloud Peniche’s story reaching out to fellow Christians about her understanding of Jesus’ teachings on Mercy, and his commandment that “you love one another just as I have loved you.” This event weaves in the powerful music of Uruguayan musician Elisa Garcia and the stories of two additional Motus UndocuAmerica touring monologists, Tania Chairez and Cristian Solano Córdova.
Following the reading, Chief Acevedo reflects with Laura Peniche on the experience of reading her story, and she reflects on having the Chief read her words. Additional UndocuAmerica monologists join for a post-performance Q&A opportunity.
Sponsored by National Immigration Forum, Colorado Immigrant Rights Coalition, Together Colorado, and Rural & Migrant Ministry.
