Colorado’s Social Studies Standards Community Forum

October 5 @ 6:00 pm

In 2019, Colorado passed HB19-1192, which required that our state Social Studies standards be updated to reflect the contributions and histories of historically marginalized Coloradans – including Latino, Black, Indigenous and Native American, and LGBTQ Coloradans.

However, the standards have been gutted, in part due to homophobic, racist, and xenophobic backlash.

We encourage community to join us at this community forum to learn about the history of this effort, and to take action to ensure that the State Board of Education’s standards are reflective of the law’s original intent.

This broad and growing coalition of organizations, includes the Colorado Democratic Latino Caucus, the Black Democratic Legislative Caucus of Colorado, the Democratic Women’s Caucus of Colorado, the Colorado Legislative LGBTQ+ Caucus, ONE Colorado, Latino Action Council, Out Boulder County, Inside Out Youth Services, Stand for Children Leadership Center, CLLARO, LULAC, Latino Education Coalition, and more.
