Collapsing Stars (Minneapolis) with Finn O’Sullivan Live at The Laughing Goat

March 10 @ 8:00 pm

Collapsing Stars (Minneapolis) visits The Laughing Goat with special guest Finn O’Sullivan.

Collapsing Stars

Named a top 100 SXSW Artist by NPR Music in 2018, Twin Cities based Collapsing Stars have been steadily making a name for themselves throughout the American west. Blending folk, blues and Americana sounds with a hint of modernity, comparisons range from Iron & Wine and the Lumineers, to the Black Keys and Ben Harper. In the last few years they’ve earned producer credits on a record for Rhymesayers Entertainment (Atmosphere, Brother Ali, deM atlaS), played a showcase at the renowned Hotel Cafe in Los Angeles, and in 2016 performed for over 120K people at Red Bull Crashed Ice. Their debut record titled ‘2012’ has received noteworthy accolades including praise from Dan Wilson, the Semisonic frontman who has co-written songs for the Dixie Chicks, John Legend, Weezer, and Adele’s 2011 hit Someone Like You. In 2018 they were named a top 100 SXSW artist by NPR Music out of 2000 showcasing acts. They’re currently on tour to promote their full length album titled ‘2012.’

9-11pm

Finn O’Sullivan

An award-winning indie pop singer-songwriter based in Boulder, Colorado, Finn O’Sullivan plays guitar, ukulele, and piano. She’s a little Regina Spektor, a little Dodie Clark, a little Regrettes when she rocks it out, and a lot her own creative self. A prolific songwriter, Finn says that songwriting is a way for her to express herself and talk about things that are important to her, which is sometimes hard for her to do in everyday conversation. She is “committed to creating things that other people can relate to,” and her songs are a testament to this commitment. With an Instagram tagline of “love, heartbreak, and self-deprecation,” she writes about the universal themes of love and loss with both humor and compassion, and her turns of phrase and sometimes surprising chord progressions evidence a maturity in musicianship far beyond her years. Her lyrics range from old soul to millennial quirky, and her clever, catchy tunes simply get stuck in your head.
