Ballroom Culture 101: Runway

February 19 @ 1:00 pm - 5:00 pm

Get ready to walk the runway with Out Boulder County’s Ballroom Culture 101 workshop on February 19th!

Modern ballroom culture refers to a very specific subculture that was born out of the black and brown LGBTQ+ scene in New York back in the 1960’s. Queers of color would find themselves not fitting into society and decided to make a space for themselves to come together and celebrate queerness, joy, beauty, and comradery. At a ball, one can expect to see pageantry, high-fashion runway competitions, drag, and of course voguing (amongst many other categories).

This month we are honored to have Syah Soleil Felicity LaBeija, MA (She/They), a local social justice educator, empathy coach, and leader in the Colorado kiki ballroom scene, here to lead this workshop on how to walk a runway at a ball.

So come in your best outfit (or not), bring some poise and grace, and get ready to strut!

February 19th, 1-4 pm
OBC’s Equality Center of the Rocky Mountains
3340 Mitchell Ln, Boulder

This event is open to everyone. QTPOC encouraged to attend!
