June 2 @ 6:00 pm

EVENT SUMMARY: FIRST FRIDAY OPENING RECEPTION: 6-2-23, 6 to 10 PM at Pirate Contemporary Art in 40 West Arts District. SHOW RUNS through 6-18-23 (Fri/Sat/Sun & by appointment).
EVENT DESRIPTION:
Enjoy all new fine art collections by Denver Artists JULIE JABLONSKI and LEAH SWENSON. Jablonski’s show ‘Four Minute Mile,’ and Swenson’s show ‘Glorifying Obesity’ explore in their own ways the struggle and triumph of walking around within the human experience. Through the drama of sport, Jablonski studies the every-person experience of risk, engagement and taking huge, sacrificing and uncomfortable chances, as she ties in her own background as a martial artist and as someone wrestling with loss, grief and identity. Swenson reclaims her identity as a fat woman, declaring her experience and herself worthy and glorious, as she illuminates and comments on harsh societal standards.
These artists demonstrate two very different handlings of collage as a medium, celebrating the range and depth of the cut paper process.
